When God Is Gently Pulling You Closer

Feeling spiritually dry or distant? Discover how God may be gently pulling you closer to Himself and inviting you into deeper intimacy.

“Fix your eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of your faith…” —Hebrews 12:2

There’s a stirring in your heart you can’t quite shake. It goes beyond the duties of motherhood or the challenge of submission in marriage. Surely, there’s more to life than being needed by everyone all the time.

It’s not that you’re resentful—you love your husband and your children, of course. But lately, you’ve felt emptied. Poured out. Dried up. And you wonder… is the Christian life really just about fulfilling your God-given roles? Or is there something more?

We tend to live life backwards. We throw ourselves into surviving and doing all the things, and then when we’re overwhelmed, we reach for Jesus like a lifeline. But that’s not how we’re meant to live.

Is He Enough?

The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.
-John 10:10

I went through a season where I didn’t think God was enough for me. Like Eve in the Garden, I thought I was missing out. I believed something tangible could fill my spirit—but it only left me emptier.

When will we truly believe that God is enough? He always tells the truth—yet somehow, we believe He’s holding out on us. The world has nothing of eternal value to offer. If you’re struggling to seek God daily, it may be because you’ve grown more comfortable with what’s familiar. It feels safe. But familiar doesn’t always mean good.

God is good. He can be trusted. He is the only one in heaven or on earth who is entirely trustworthy. And when we finally grab hold of how great His love is—and who we are in Him—it changes everything.

Found in Him

You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.
Jeremiah 29:13

What does it look like to be “found in Him”?

It begins with a hunger for God. If you’re in a place where that hunger is missing, ask Him to give it to you. He will—He wants that, too! But remember, your actions play a role. Your desires grow in the direction you feed them.

The more you watch Netflix, the more you want to. The more you fight for your sacred mornings in prayer and in the Word, the more you’ll crave them. When you discover that life is found in those quiet spaces with Him, it becomes less about duty and more about delight.

Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here! —2 Corinthians 5:17

Being found in Him means your past no longer defines you. Whether you’re carrying unhealed trauma or lingering shame, that’s not who you are anymore. You are God’s beloved. He’s not mad at you—He’s fighting for you.

Believing that truth will lead you to life in Christ. He’s covered the sin, the shame, and the wounds. He came to bring you forgiveness, acceptance, and healing. You’ll be found in Him when you believe that and receive it.

Seek His Face

“My heart says of you, ‘Seek his face!’ Your face, Lord, I will seek.”
Psalm 27:8

Our Father longs to be with us, not just believed in. Jesus’ death on the cross built that bridge for us. And as we give more of ourselves to God, His love begins to shape the way we love others. Serving doesn’t drain us when we’re consistently in communion with Him.

We’re not defined by our roles—we are defined by His love. And when we catch a glimpse of how much He loves us, we can’t help but want to draw near. That desire to spend time with Him flows supernaturally. He longs for us to sit at His feet and listen for His voice.

When our focus is on Him, we begin to live through the lens of His will rather than our own. We might think we know what’s best—for ourselves or others, but He knows better. And we won’t know His will unless we draw near.

8 Signs He Pulling You Closer

  1. There’s a stirring in your heart, a deep longing to be with God. You find yourself craving time in His Word, seeking His presence more and more. This longing isn’t something you create on your own—it’s God gently pulling you closer, making you thirst for more of Him. (Psalm 42:1-2)
  2. Have you ever felt that tug of conviction? It’s not to make you feel bad, but to draw you closer. God shows us where we’ve strayed, but He does it because He wants to refine us and bring us back to Him, not to condemn us. (John 16:8)
  3. When God pulls you closer, you start feeling that deep, unshakeable peace. Even in the middle of challenges, there’s this quiet assurance that He is with you, that He’s holding you and strengthening you. (Isaiah 41:10)
  4. You start desiring His will more than your own. You might find yourself asking, “What does God want for me?” more than ever before. That’s His call to intimacy. (James 4:8)
  5. You start loving others not out of duty but out of a genuine, overflowing heart that can’t help but love those around us. The closer you get to God, the more His love fills your heart. (1 John 4:19)
  6. There’s a growing trust that His plan for your life is better than anything you could have imagined. You begin to rest in His guidance, trusting that He’s leading you exactly where you need to go. (Proverbs 3:5-6)
  7. You begin to notice the little nudges from the Holy Spirit more clearly. You might hear Him in your thoughts, feel Him in your spirit, and recognize His guiding presence in the little moments of life. (Romans 8:16)
  8. You find your hope in Him grows. Even when life is tough, you cling to His promises, knowing He is faithful. That hope doesn’t just stay inside you—it overflows, impacting others around you. (Romans 15:13)

Before we are anyone’s wife, mother, friend, aunt, or daughter—we are His first. The reason we often struggle to live like we belong to Him is that we’ve only reached for Him in crisis. Sister, He has chosen you for a close, devoted relationship. He cherishes you. He wants to fill you.

Let’s Pray

God, I don’t want to love You in theory—I want to love You in truth. Help me give You my full attention. Pull my eyes back to You when they wander. Quiet the noise. Capture my heart again. You’re worth it. I love you, Lord. Help me show it. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

Pause & Ponder

What’s stealing your attention lately? What would it look like to sit at His feet today?
