Embrace the Freedom of God’s Daily New Mercies in Your Life

The steadfast love of the LORD never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.
-Lamentations 3:22-23

It’s interesting to me how we tend to form this picture in our minds of this God who is angry and disappointed in us all the time. Yet His Word is filled with nothing but love, truth, and forgiveness toward us.

You can trust that the sun will rise each morning. You don’t even question whether it will each night when you go to bed. You just know it will. It has done so every day that you’ve been alive and everyday before that since the dawn of creation. It is faithful every morning.

Only one person is as faithful and constant as the rising and setting of the sun—God, our Father, and the mercy He gives us

When you went to bed last night, whatever mistakes you made, whatever sin you may have gotten caught up in disappeared with the sun and when you woke this morning, you started with a clean slate as if none of those mistakes the day before ever happened. God doesn’t hold them against you or over you.

Confidence in His New Mercies

This is truth we can be absolutely confident in because God’s word reveals it to us over and over again. Jesus’ very death paid for this freedom. God does not want us living in bondage to something He died to set us free from.

It’s a gift — nothing we deserved or earned but given out of God’s great love for us.

How can we live within this glorious freedom?

We start by seeking Him in the morning. When we begin our day with Him, His Spirit is free to guide us more easily throughout the day.

When we keep our eyes fixed on Him first we are more prone to hear and follow His leading.

Waking up with new mercies just makes me want to seek Him longer and more deeply. The gift is so great, I could never repay Him properly. It’s worth more than anything I could ever own or hope to buy.

It’s a virtue no human relationship could ever offer, but one we desperately long for.

He’s there, friend. He’s not holding yesterday’s mess over your head. He’s not going to bring up past mistakes to try to control you or manipulate you. No, that’s the work of the Enemy, not your Heavenly Father.

Take today as a gift with a fresh start because for those who are in Christ Jesus, that’s exactly what it is!

Faithfully His,

Christin
xoxo
