Screens are easy. They require nothing from us—no effort, no commitment, no accountability. Yet, they take so much away: our time, creativity, potential, and attention from real life. It’s not all bad, but balance is crucial. When I say balance, I don’t mean equal screen time and real life.
Instead, take inspiration or knowledge from a quick scroll and apply it to your life. There are many benefits to being inspired or challenged by a creator—so long as we act on what they encourage.
The problem is, the scroll delivers information right to our fingertips, whether it’s accurate or helpful. If you’re looking to affirm something, you’ll find it. In some ways, it can make you feel connected, but not in every way. The digital world can never replace the personal intimacy of spiritual connection.
The soul longs for more than surface-level content. The answer isn’t more scrolling; it’s setting aside the distractions that won’t satisfy and drinking deeply from His well. I know this, yet I keep reaching for my phone because it’s easy. I want something quick, but it’s never really quick.
I spend my days trying to fill a bucket with droplets instead of taking the time and effort to go to the well and fill my bucket with living water.
The things of this world will never satisfy the way God can. Whether it’s scrolling social media, chasing a position, pursuing a relationship, longing for more money, or paying for higher education.
It’s not a message that’s never been said before, but it bears repeating because we keep chasing after things that never truly fill us. This causes us to pursue more empty things while neglecting the one Person who can truly satisfy. That’s a sacred hunger that can only be filled by Him.
xoxo,
Christin
