Encouraging moms to savor the beauty of home & life in Christ

The Value of Sacred Mornings and How I Make Them a Priority

How can you experience the joy of sacred mornings with Jesus? Start your day with Him and let His love overflow into every aspect of your life.

For many years I felt the nudging of the Lord wanting me to get up early and spend time with Him. I knew it wasn’t me because I preferred to sleep — but the desire to spend time with Jesus was so strong, I couldn’t shake it.

Yes, of course I wanted to spend time with Jesus, but wasn’t there a different time of day I could do it? Maybe. But He was calling me to do it in the morning.

After many excuses, I finally began meeting with Him in the early morning hours and I’ve been blown away.

Sacred Mornings Require Sacrifice

It’s a sacrifice for me to be up early, but He has shown up in ways that you’d need to personally experience to understand. He meets me where I’m at. He’s been answering huge prayers I’ve been praying in the lives of my children. He imparts the energy and mental stability I need for each day.

Our mental health, physical health, and spiritual health are linked. When we neglect one aspect, they all suffer. When we abuse one aspect, they all suffer.

Mornings with Jesus is a starting point for keeping them all healthy because everything begins with Jesus.

I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing.
John 15:5

We Are Whole Beings

When we continue to fill our bodies full of sugar and unhealthy foods, our physical health suffers which effects our mental health because our brains aren’t being fed the correct nourishment. Our spiritual health suffers because the mental energy it takes to invest in our spiritual health is too heavy. We are bogged down by overwhelm, anxiety, depression, etc.

Medications can be helpful, and for some people they may be necessary. But for the majority of us, taking care of ourselves is the solution. Nourishing our spiritual lives is not optional if we are truly devoted to Christ. And I say that as one who has had excuse after excuse on why I wasn’t reading my Bible or spending time with Him. Everything else was more important and God would understand.

We truly do make space for the things we value most. I get it. It is SO much easier to scroll our phones or turn on Netflix. The dopamine hits so much faster, and we become addicted to the pleasure of it all. In the meantime, we neglect our need for time with Jesus. We miss out on the slow and steady growth and understanding; the patience required to get where God wants us to go.

Busyness Robs But Jesus Redeems

If I’d known just how pivotal this would be in my life, I wouldn’t have fought with myself so hard on it. Life is so full and busy and challenging, but Jesus seems to make it all feel manageable because being with him each morning helps remind us He’s always with us.

But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.
Matthew 6:33

God knows our needs but we often forget He knows — and if we’d simply seek Him first, it takes a lofty weight of worry off our shoulders. When we spend time taking in His Word, we plant truth into our hearts.

Giving God time is redeeming my time when I think I have no time. He gives me more than enough and reminds me to slow down, that He is the most important and He’ll manage everything else as I go about my day. What does that mean?

It means He gives me a mindset shift first. It means I allow Him to go before me and I trust He’ll make the way by taking the first steps.

Being a Busy Mom

Even as busy moms we get to choose our schedule and the schedules of our children, at least to some degree. If you are so busy you are constantly exhausted and aren’t able to get into that secret place, it may be time for a reevaluation of the schedule.

I’m always amazed at how God fills in the spaces where I need Him — like when I’m tired, He gets me through. He gives me supernatural energy when it’s otherwise out of my control.

Just like any relationship, it’s a two-way street. God is a gentleman and He will never force you to want to be with Him. But sweet sister, He is wooing you! He’s dropping you hints and gifts and little love notes. You just need to see them. 🙂
